What is .NET Framework

A programming infrastructure created by Microsoft for building, deploying, and running applications and services that use .NET technologies, such as desktop applications and Web services. Is using managed code programming model for building applications that have visually stunning user experiences, seamless and secure communication, and the ability to model a range of business processes.

The .NET Framework is intended to be used by most new applications created for the Windows platform. Applications that use the .NET Framework are able to exploit the latest features and technology, and are assured of being compatible with current and future versions of Windows. It provides extra functionality that is not included in the basic operating system.
